田野 The Room
第一部分是把声音艺术历史的名作 “i am sitting in the room” 用实时直播形态重新演绎。
This sound theater performance work explores the new social media sound culture and reshapes some key concepts in sound art. The entire sound theater performance uses six mobile phones. The real-time sound streams from various mobile live streaming apps are remixed and modulated on site. At the same time, the entire performance is also live stream through audio. There are three parts of the whole performance.
The first part is to reinterpret Alvin Lucier’s “i am sitting in the room”, a masterpiece in the history of sound art, in a real-time live broadcast format. The artist use audio live streaming apps on five mobile phones to broadcast his live recite of “i am sitting in the room”. Through receiving and remixing constantly live streaming feedbacks, thus the artist re-creates the classic work in today’s new media environment.
In the second part, the artist prints more than 6,000 lines of webpage code of the online live broadcast room in advance, select and reads the code on the spot, and remixes the streaming sounds in real time. The purpose of this is to reveal how the power is constructed through the code.
In the third part, the artist recites the text of John Cage‘s “Speech on Nothing” and remixes the live streaming in real time. The purpose of this is to discover the huge online data wreckage produced by a large number of individuals using new sound media, and to re-discuss the concept of nothingness.
